Where to find powder through the end of Feb
Summary
Most mountains in North America saw moderate-to-significant snowfall through the President’s Day weekend. Coming up, this week will bring snow to the Northeast and Colorado, and then next week should bring storms from coast-to-coast.
Short Term Forecast
Five-Day Totals
It’s been another deep five-day stretch with 1-2 feet of snow from the Northwest through the Northern Rockies, into Utah and Colorado, and over to the Northeast. The good times keep on rolling!
Forecast for Tue, Feb 18 – Wed, Feb 19
The deepest snow totals will fall over the mountains of Coastal Alaska, though I know most of you are not skiing in this area, so we’ll find something to talk about a little closer to home. The Northeast will see a storm on Tuesday, likely lingering into Tuesday night. And some parts of Colorado and New Mexico will see snow on Monday night into Tuesday and again Wednesday into Thursday.
Forecast for Thu, Feb 20 – Fri, Feb 21
The main activity over the lower 48 states will be a storm exiting Colorado on Wednesday night into Thursday morning. Otherwise, by far the deepest snow will be over the coastal mountains of Alaska and British Columbia.
Forecast for Sat, Feb 22 – Sun, Feb 23
As we go through the weekend, we will have more storms to talk about. One system will bring powder to the Southwest on Saturday into Sunday. Another storm will push through the Northwest with snow starting on Saturday and continuing through Sunday.
Extended Forecast
Outlook for Mon, Feb 24 – Fri, Feb 28
The final week of February will be snowy from coast-to-coast. A storm over the Northwest will move east and bring snow to the Rockies through the week, and the Southwest might get in on the action as well. These systems should track to over to the east coast though it’s too early to know which eastern mountains will see the deepest totals or which day will offer the best powder.
Thanks so much for reading and please check back for my next post on Thursday, February 20th.
