Deep weekend for Colorado & New Mexico, refills on the way

Summary

Colorado scored a deep weekend with heavy snow falling across much of the state, while Northern New Mexico and Taos received a good dump as well. Over the upcoming week, a storm will bring refills to California and the Four Corners states on Monday and Tuesday. Another storm will arrive late in the week and into the weekend of March 20th-21st with most areas in the West picking up some snow.

Short Term Forecast

Huge storm for Colorado, more snow on the way this week

A much-anticipated storm delivered across Colorado and Northern New Mexico over the weekend, especially on Saturday night and Sunday. We'll have to wait until later Monday morning to see the full range of snow totals as heavy snow was continuing to fall through Sunday night, but incredible conditions were being reported at many ski areas during the day on Sunday, including Telluride.

Forecast for Mon, Mar 15 – Tue, Mar 16

The next storm will impact California on Monday including Tahoe with a solid round of snow. The storm will move inland on Tuesday with refills expected across the Four Corners states, including areas that just got dumped on over the weekend. A Gulf of Alaska storm will bring moderate to heavy snow to the coastal ranges of Southeast Alaska and Northwest BC as well.

Forecast for Wed, Mar 17 – Thu, Mar 18

Snow will taper off across Colorado and New Mexico on Wednesday morning as the storm moves out onto the plains. Otherwise, the middle of the week will be quiet across most of North America, except for Northwest BC and Southeast Alaska where snow will continue to fall.

Forecast for Fri, Mar 19 – Sat, Mar 20

The next storm will impact the far west on Friday with snow for the Coast Range, Cascades, and Sierras, as well as the interior of British Columbia and Western Alberta. Snow will then develop across the Northern Rockies on Saturday. A storm will also impact the Mid-Atlantic on Friday with rain initially – it's possible some areas could see a change-over to snow, but confidence is low at this time.

Extended Forecast

Outlook for Sun, Mar 21 – Thu, Mar 25

The Four Corners region will be favored for more snow during the early portion of this period, while the Pacific Northwest could also see another quick storm that will fall apart as it moves inland. Later on in this period, high pressure is expected to build across both the east and west coasts, resulting in a drying trend with warmer temperatures across many areas.
