Northwest and Northeast favored this week
Summary
An early week storm is favoring the Pacific Northwest and Northern Rockies, while the East will see a good strong late-season storm with colder temperatures midweek that will bring some snow to Northern New England. Late this week, the pattern will quiet down across much of North America, before turning more active across the West Coast next week.
Short Term Forecast
Head north to find fresh snow this week
Areas that received deep totals across the Central and Southern Rockies last week will transition into a drier pattern this week, while most of the action shifts north. The Pacific Northwest will begin the week with fresh snow and cold temperatures, while a late-season storm will bring snow to parts of New England and Quebec midweek.
Forecast for Mon, Mar 29 – Tue, Mar 30
Snow will taper off across the Cascades on Monday morning with most of the action shifting east into the Northern Rockies. Lighter snow will fall farther south in Colorado on Monday night and Tuesday. The Northeast will see lingering effects from a weekend storm on Monday with rain changing over to snow across Northern New England. Farther north, a storm will impact the Coast Range of Southeast Alaska on Tuesday.
Forecast for Wed, Mar 31 – Thu, Apr 1
A storm will impact the East during the middle of the week with precipitation starting as rain on Wednesday before changing over to snow on Wednesday night and Thursday as a strong cold front arrives. Northern New England and Quebec will be the most favored for new snow. In the West, a storm will impact Southeast Alaska and Central/Northern British Columbia on Wednesday night and Thursday.
Forecast for Fri, Apr 2 – Sat, Apr 3
Friday and Saturday will be quiet across a large portion of North America. British Columbia will see some snow showers and flurries across the higher elevations from time to time but only light amounts are expected.
Extended Forecast
Outlook for Sun, Apr 4 – Thu, Apr 8
Warmer temperatures will overtake the eastern 3/4th's of North America during this time with colder air becoming entrenched across the West Coast. The storm track will be the most favorable for the Pacific Northwest, while the Sierras and Northern Rockies could also get in on the action.
