Two more storms for the West
Summary
It's been a snowy week across much of the West and we're not quite done either. A storm that recently impacted the Northwest & Northern Rockies will bring snow to Colorado on Friday. A second storm will impact the West from Sunday-Tuesday with Western Canada & the WA/OR Cascades receiving the deepest totals. In the East, Northern New England could pick up a bit of snow on Sunday.
Short Term Forecast
Snowy week across much of the West
Ski resorts across the Rockies and the Pacific Northwest have enjoyed late-season powder days this week. Areas that have received 20+ inch snow totals over the previous 5 days (ending Thursday morning) include Mt. Seymour (BC), Powder King (BC), Mt. Baker (WA), Grand Targhee (WY), Snowbird (UT), Red Lodge (MT), Snowmass (CO), and Taos (NM).
Check out the scene from Red Lodge earlier this week during a storm that dumped 24 inches of snow in less than 48 hours.
Forecast for Fri, Mar 26 – Sat, Mar 27
Snow will favor the Four Corners states on Friday with the deepest totals expected in the San Juans. The next storm to make landfall on the Pacific Coast will bring heavy snow to Northern British Columbia on Sunday. A storm will bring rain to most areas of the Northeast on Friday with some backside snow showers possible for Northern New England on Saturday.
Forecast for Sun, Mar 28 – Mon, Mar 29
Snow will spread south into Southern British Columbia and Alberta on Sunday, then the Cascades and Northern U.S. Rockies will get in on the action on Monday with falling snow levels. The Northeast will see a storm on Sunday-Sunday night with a combination of rain and snow. Higher elevation areas of Northern New England will have the best chance of seeing more snow than rain.
Forecast for Tue, Mar 30 – Wed, Mar 31
Colorado will likely see a round of snow on Tuesday, otherwise, a quiet pattern is expected for the middle of next week. The exception will be far Northern BC and Southeast Alaska where snow will fall on Wednesday.
Extended Forecast
Outlook for Thu, Apr 1 – Mon, Apr 5
High pressure will build over the Western U.S. heading into early April with warm and dry conditions, while the storm track will shift farther north into Central British Columbia. The pattern will turn colder and more active across the East with a storm possible around April 1st-2nd.
Thanks so much for reading! Check back for my next post on Monday, March 29th.
