Powder day for New England & Upstate NY on Friday

Summary

A strong storm will continue to produce heavy snow across Upstate New York and Northern New England on Friday with deep powder days likely for many ski resorts. New Mexico, Colorado, Pacific Northwest, and Canada resorts have also picked up good snow in recent days. The pattern will quiet down for most areas this weekend, except for Alaska & Northern BC who will continue to see heavy snow.

Short Term Forecast

Big storm for the Northeast on Friday

A strong storm brought heavy snow to New York and Central/Northern New England on Thursday night and heavy snow will continue during the day on Friday as well with deep totals adding up. Southern New England areas closer to the coast will see freezing rain/sleet mixed with rain with this storm, while the Mid-Atlantic will see mostly rain.

Forecast for Fri 2/4 – Sat 2/5:

Heavy snow will continue across the Northeast during the day on Friday before gradually tapering off on Friday night. The Upper Midwest will also see a storm on Saturday with light snow favoring Northern Minnesota and the UP of Michigan.

Out West, a strong storm will bring heavy snow to Alaska & British Columbia on Friday & Friday night, with lighter snow for Washington, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, and Alberta.

Forecast for Sun 2/6 – Mon 2/7:

A strong storm will impact Alaska and West Central/Northwest BC on Sunday and Monday with lighter snow extending into Southwest BC and Northwest Washington on Monday. The Rockies will see some flurries Saturday night/Sunday morning, then will dry out afterward.

The East will also see a couple of weak disturbances with light/moderate snow around the UP of Michigan and scattered flurries across parts of the Appalachians.

Forecast for Tue 2/8 – Wed 2/9:

Storms will continue to favor Alaska and Nothern/Central BC with heavy snow, while mostly dry conditions will prevail for the remainder of the West.

A stronger storm is projected to track just a bit too far off the East Coast for most areas, but Southeast Canada (Nova Scotia, Newfoundland) could pick up some heavy snow. Otherwise, light snow is possible for the rest of the East and Midwest with low confidence in terms of timing and coverage.

Extended Forecast

Outlook for Thu 2/10 – Mon 2/14:

The East will be the most favored during this period with more frequent storms expected along with below-average temperatures. Stubborn high pressure will remain in place out West with the storm track favoring Alaska and Northern BC, while drier conditions will prevail further south.

Thanks so much for reading! Next update on Monday (2/7).
