Heavy snow from New Mexico to New England

Summary

The week started out with heavy snow and powder days for the PNW and Canada. A strong storm will result in mid-week powder for Colorado & New Mexico, before moving east and bringing heavy snow to the Northeast & New England on Thursday and Friday. Central & Southern BC will see a good storm on Friday as well.

Short Term Forecast

Mid-week storm to bring snow from the Rockies to the East Coast

Areas along the Front Range and Southern Colorado will enjoy fresh powder on Wednesday morning from a storm impacting the Southern Rockies while New Mexico will see heavy snow continue during the day Wednesday with deep totals adding up at Taos.

The same storm will produce a long swatch of snow across the middle of the country with heavy snow (possibly starting as rain or a mix) and deep totals expected across Upstate New York and New England on Thursday night and Friday. 

Forecast for Wed 2/2 – Thu 2/3:

It will be an active middle of the week with snow for Colorado & New Mexico on Wednesday. The Northeast will see a mix of precipitation to start on Thursday before gradually transitioning to snow across Upstate New York and Northern New England.

A storm will also bring heavy snow to Southeast Alaska and Northern BC on Wednesday & Thursday with light to moderate snow extending into Southwest BC as well as parts of Washington, Oregon, and Idaho. 

Forecast for Fri 2/4 – Sat 2/5:

Heavy snow will continue across New York and New England on Friday with areas in the warm sector starting as rain, ice, or mixed precip seeing an eventual transition to snow. A couple of weak disturbances will also bring light snow to Northern Minnesota and UP of Michigan.

Across the West, a storm will bring moderate to heavy snow to much of BC on Friday, with light snow extending south of the border into northern portions of Washington, Idaho, and Montana.

Forecast for Sun 2/6 – Mon 2/7:

Most of North America will see a quieter pattern compared to previous days. The exception will be Southeast Alaska and Northwest BC who will continue to see stronger storms, while Southwest BC and Northwest WA could also pick up some light snow on Monday. Light snow showers and flurries are also possible across the Upper Midwest and Northeast. 

Extended Forecast

Outlook for Tue 2/8 – Sat 2/12:

The second week of February is looking relatively quiet for most of North America. High pressure will strengthen out West with most storms confined to Alaska and Northern/Central BC. The East is also expected to see a somewhat drier pattern compared to recent weeks, though the Upper Midwest and New England should continue to pick up some snow from time to time.
