More snow for California
Summary
California has been slammed with strong storms recently, resulting in deep snow totals and powdery snow quality. That trend will continue during the first half of this week with more storms on the way. The rest of the West will benefit from the active pattern as well, and we're also keeping an eye on a potentially strong storm for the Northeast toward the end of the week.
Short Term Forecast
Incredible storm cycle for California:
A series of storms have delivered deep snow totals throughout the state of California in recent days. The storm was particularly noteworthy across the SoCal Mountains above LA with snow totals over 6 FEET recorded in two days. Tahoe ski resorts have also received huge snow totals, and snow quality has been very dry and powdery for this region thanks to a cold airmass.

Forecast for Mon, Feb 27 – Tue, Feb 28:
Multiple storms will impact the West during this period with deep snow totals adding up across California once again, while the Oregon Cascades, Wasatch, and Tetons should also do well.
A storm will impact the East during this period and will produce a mixed bag of precipitation over the Midwest and parts of New York and Pennsylvania with rain, sleet, and freezing rain mixing in, while New England will see all-snow.
Forecast for Wed, Mar 1 – Thu, Mar 2:
Heavy snow will linger in California on Wednesday before eventually tapering off, while the focus of the storm will shift into the Southwest with heavy snow developing across the Four Corners region. A strong storm will also impact Alaska and BC during this period with snow reaching the Pacific Northwest by Thursday.
The East will remain in an active pattern with two weaker storms bringing additional shots of snow to the Midwest, New York, and New England.
Forecast for Fri, Mar 3 – Sat, Mar 4:
A strong storm is likely to impact the East during this period with the potential for deep snow totals in some areas (especially New England), but confidence is low on the exact storm track at this time and if and where rain or mixed precipitation could factor in.
A generally unsettled pattern will persist across the Pacific Northwest as well as the Northern/Central Rockies with snow showers expected, while California will see a break.
Extended Forecast
Outlook for Sun, Mar 5 – Thu, Mar 9:
The storm track is expected to heavily favor California again during this period with the potential for more heavy snow across the Sierra Nevada Range including Tahoe. Other areas of the West will get in on the action from time to time but with lighter snow compared to the Sierra.
An active pattern is also expected to continue across the Northeast with additional shots of snow possible.
Thanks so much for reading! Next update on Wednesday (Mar 1).
