And... Finally!

Summary

A storm that felt like it would never arrive as finally arrived. Snow will continue today, heaviest in areas favored by NW flow. Snow tapers off by tonight. A break for most of the weak, next chance for snow looks to be Saturday.

Short Term Forecast

Oh man! I said in both Friday's and Saturday's forecast that the snow wouldn't arrive until Saturday night, and Sunday was the day for powder.  But even knowing that, it was agonizing watching the radar and just seeing it stalled there over far northwest Idaho in southeast Idaho.

But it finally moved into our region overnight and snowed in earnest. I was pretty stoked to look out my window first thing this morning and see 10" of new snow in the backyard.  Looking at automated sensors, I see 0.83" of liquid and 12" of snow in LCC overnight!  Similar amounts in BCC.  6-8" of snow on PC ridge.  Generally lesser amounts elsewhere but they are seeing snow as well!

Snow should continue, heavy at times all day long.  Heaviest in areas favored by NW flow such as Cottonwoods.  I'd expect at least another 6-12" if not more.  I think the Cottonwoods, already at 12" could still top 24" total.  Snow winds down tonight...

Today is going to be fun.  No need to overthink it.

This latest storm was one of the most difficult to forecast in all my years doing this, so thanks for your patience.  For those of you who weren't patient, I understand the process.

A break starting tomorrow with warmer temps as we head thru the work week.

Extended Forecast

Looks like our next storm will be next Saturday.  This looks unorganized and generally weak.  The pattern is not as conducive to strong storm as generally there's a trough off the coast with continental high pressure that will weaken storms as they move inland. The pattern may shift back to a more favorable one around mid-month and afterward.
