Utah Daily Snow

Weaklings
Summary
A bit of a break thru Sunday before a relatively weak system brings light snow to the mountains of Northern Utah. Additional chances for weak systems thereafter.
Short Term Forecast
Not really too much to talk about. We remain in a general lull in winter. The good news is it's a dirty ridge, meaning weak systems are brushing the area from time to time which gives us at least a shot at some refresher storms. Yesterday's weak system brought anywhere from a trace up to 3" of fresh snow.
We are going to be clear thru tomorrow, then the next system moves in Sunday night into Monday morning. The general trend has been to take this from a moderate system to a weak system in recent model runs. The GFS suite is still the strongest. SREF mean is about 0.6":
The Euro is a bit weaker and then NAM is the weakest. Latest NAM brings in only a dusting. The storm will be somewhere from weak to pathetic. Maybe some soft turns on Monday morning, but I wouldn't expect a powder day.
We will then have another weak wave for around Wednesday. Again, meager snowfall amounts but a light refresh is possible.
Extended Forecast
At this point, we are waiting for a more significant change to the pattern. The ridge will be setting up just off the west coast with a trough in the central U.S. There are some indications that this ridge will amplify and retrograde which may allow some systems to drop into the Great Basin during the first week of February. Still monitoring with crossed fingers for this to show up in more models and come within range of the deterministic/operational models.
