Summary
Heavy snow yesterday with continuing snow showers today and tomorrow. Gradual clearing this weekend. Chances for showers next week.
Short Term Forecast
Yesterday, from what I've seen from friends on social media, was a day to remember. The forecast yesterday stated that we could see an additional 4-8" throughout the day. Instead, we saw that much within just an hour or two as a very heavy snow band parked itself over the Wasatch funneling snow from SW to NE. 16-20" being reported in the Cottonwoods this morning. Reports of 10-20" of snow in town in PC. Lots of comments of epic powder conditions. Of course, I'm in southern Utah so I missed it (you're welcome), but I got my bonus powder day last week so I'm not too upset. I am very happy for those of you who scored deep turns yesterday. Well deserved!
As for the weather today, we continue to see snow showers. I'm looking at guidance and there's nothing to say we couldn't see periods of heavy snow again today and tomorrow. Maybe not quite as persistent, but it would be quite easy to pick up a few inches at a time in some heavier bursts. Again, a type of pattern to keep a close eye on the radar and webcams and be ready to get up to the mountain as quickly as possible when it starts dumping.
The 12km NAM is fairly optimistic that the upper Cottonwoods could be looking at 8+" of additional snow:
It's hard to stamp a guarantee on a forecast like this, but there's nothing to say that today and tomorrow (and maybe Saturday) won't continue to have fresh snow and killer conditions.
We should see gradual clearing this weekend as this slow-moving system finally exits the state. As it moves SE of us, southern Utah could get in on the action a bit with some snow in the mountains.
Extended Forecast
A brief break and warm-up late this weekend into Monday. Models then show a system brushing Northern Utah late Monday into Tuesday of next week. Another system is possible for later in the week. These storms do not look impressive, but we could see additional showers, and as we've seen the last two weeks, it's not impossible for us to get surprised with some decent powder.
