Lingering snow showers and clouds at Winter Park

Summary

On Friday, light snow continued to fall, and throughout the weekend, we will see occasional snow showers and clouds. Monday and Tuesday will be warmer and dry, then snow will return on Tuesday night into Wednesday.

Short Term Forecast

The mountain has reported fresh snow for 5 of the last 8 days, and while amounts each day have been only in the single-digit number of inches, consistent snowfall is the key to soft conditions and getting more terrain open.

On Friday, light snow showers fell through the day, and these snow showers continued on Friday night. The 24-hour snow total from Friday morning to Saturday morning is 5 inches across the mountain with about half of this coming on Friday night, which was unexpected and will ensure soft turns on Saturday morning.

On Saturday and Sunday, a northwest flow of moisture will bring clouds and snow showers and likely just light snow accumulations. High temperatures should top out in the 20s and winds could be gusty, up to 40mph.

On Monday and Tuesday, the sun will return and temperatures will warm into the 30s during each afternoon. Enjoy these beautiful two days before the next storm arrives.

Extended Forecast

The next storm will bring snow from Tuesday night through Wednesday, December 23rd. This will be a strong storm, though it will be moving fast and moisture will be limited, which should keep snow accumulations in the single digits. My early forecast is for 3-6 inches with soft snow on the hill Wednesday morning.

After that, Thursday, December 24 through Saturday, December 26 should be dry.

Then we’ll see more snow likely around Sunday, December 27 with more storms possible during the week of New Years.

Thanks for reading and check back each morning for daily updates!
