Clouds and showers hang around Winter Park

Summary

Sunday will be another partly-to-mostly cloudy day with lingering moisture and showers. Monday and Tuesday will be sunnier and warmer. Then snow and cold temperatures will arrive on Wednesday.

Short Term Forecast

Saturday was a partly-to-mostly cloudy day with on-then-off showers throughout the day and overnight into Sunday morning. These showers produced about 2 inches of accumulation mostly on Saturday night.

On Sunday, we will see more of the same with clouds and showers hanging around, and this is typical when the storm track is positioned just to the north of Colorado. Also, watch out for gusty winds at the summit.

On Monday and Tuesday, the storm track will lift farther to the north and we’ll see more sunshine with warmer temperatures topping out in the upper 20s to 30s.

On Tuesday night into Wednesday, our next storm will bring snow and cold air. The storm’s energy is strong but the cold air signals a lack of moisture, so I’ll stick with a middle-of-the-road forecast for 3-6 inches of snow and we’ll dial that up or down over the coming days. Wednesday’s temperature could be steady or even decline during the day and may stay in the single digits.

Extended Forecast

Looking ahead, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday will be dry with warming temperatures each day and we’ll likely get back into the 20s and 30s by Friday and Saturday.

Sunday, December 27th, snow should return. Then a stronger storm, or storms, should keep the snow falling in Colorado during the week of New Years. It’s too soon to know exactly how much snow will fall at each mountain, so let’s just look forward to a hopefully stormy week and we’ll talk about possible snow amounts and the timing of the storm(s) in a few more days.

Thanks for reading and check back each morning for daily updates!
