Happy New Year!

Friday, Saturday, and Sunday should be dry days with some sun, maybe some clouds, and comfortable temperatures rising into the 20s. As a few weak storms track near Colorado, we might see a few snow showers, though this is just a low chance.

On Sunday night into Monday morning, a storm brushing northern Colorado could bring us anything from flurries to maybe a bit of accumulating snow. Nothing to get too excited about, but flakes are good even if there are just a few of them.

Our next chance for a more significant storm will be from Tuesday into Wednesday, January 5-6. I continue to have low confidence in this forecast as some models show 6+ inches of snow and others show almost nothing. I’ll keep an eye on the storm, of course, and for now, there is still a decent chance for soft turns either later Tuesday or more likely early Wednesday.

Toward the end of next week, there could be another storm between Thursday and Friday, January 7-8, though the latest models are showing signs that this storm could weaken as it moves past Colorado, so my expectations for snowfall are very low.

From Saturday, January 9 through Wednesday, January 13, additional storms should move close to or over Colorado, but as I’ve been mentioning, it’s far too soon to get excited about these systems.

I do have some positive news for the longer-range outlook. The weather pattern during the first 10 days of January is keeping most of the snow to our west and we are getting just the dribs and drabs head inland from the west coast and weaken. The latest longer-range outlook shows that this area of storminess to our west should transition closer to or over Colorado during the final 10 days of January, and this could put us in a really good (snowy!) pattern to end the month and ring in February. Outlooks extending to 30+ days are often not accurate in the details but can be accurate in a more general sense, so I wanted to mention this possible good news.
