Chances for snow through Wednesday at Winter Park

Summary

Monday’s snow showers ended by the late afternoon. On Monday night, the next storm brought flakes back to the mountain, and on Tuesday and Wednesday, we’ll see a chance for a few inches of snow. Warm and dry weather will return on Thursday.

Short Term Forecast

During the day on Monday, the tail end of the weekend storm kept snow showers going with about 2 inches of accumulation at the mid-mountain snow stake through the midday. Then on Monday evening, skies cleared and we saw dry weather.

On Monday night into Tuesday morning, snowflakes returned thanks to moisture and energy from the next storm which is tracking to the south of Colorado. We saw about 1 inch of accumulation from late Monday night into Tuesday early morning.

For the day on Tuesday, expect snow showers to ramp up during the afternoon and evening, and then snow showers could continue, albeit lighter, late on Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. Snow accumulations should be just a few inches, though this storm has a history of creating surprises as it tracked through Utah over the past day, so I have low confidence in the snow forecast.

On Wednesday morning, we will enjoy any of the fresh snow that falls on Tuesday night. Then during the day on Wednesday, there is a chance for more snow squalls especially during the midday and afternoon and snow accumulations could be anything from a little to a few more inches.

Extended Forecast

On Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, we will transition back to the feeling of spring with dry weather, more sunshine, and high temperatures in the 30s and 40s. Snow conditions will be firm and crunchy in the morning then softer and slushy by the afternoon.

From Saturday night, March 20-21, through Friday, March 26, there will be one or a series of storms that should bring snow to Colorado. The forecast models show even less agreement than they did one day ago, so I am going to hold off on discussing any details for at least a few days. Of course, I hope that the final full week of March is a snowy one, but we just won’t know how this storm will play out for at least a few more days.

Thanks for reading and check back each morning for daily updates!
