Storm Thursday night into Friday morning
Summary
On Wednesday and Thursday, there will be some snow showers but accumulations should be light. The most snow should then fall from Thursday night into Friday morning.
Update
Following the 2 inches of snow on Monday night, the mountain and surrounding areas are looking a little more like winter.
Wednesday will be dry with highs in the 20s and low 30s.
From Wednesday afternoon through Thursday midday, clouds will increase and we should see some snow showers. There is a LOT of moisture heading our way. However, warm-ish temperatures (the upper 20s) and an unfavorable wind direction from the west-southwest and southwest should mean that we will see little accumulation during this time. My best estimate is that we'll see a few inches, if that.
From Thursday night through Friday morning, we'll see intense snowfall as multiple factors align (a lot of moisture, the jet stream overhead, and a decent wind direction switching to the west and northwest). The multi-model forecast on OpenSnow for this time is 4-9 inches and I think that's reasonable.
On Friday, we'll see snow showers linger through the day (though accumulations should be light after the morning), and temperatures will be very cold, in the single digits.
This single storm on Thursday into Friday won't be enough to completely turn our low-snow season around, but it might help the mountain to open some more terrain.
Saturday, Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday will be dry with warming temperatures in the 20s and 30s.
Our next chance for snow will be around Wednesday and Thursday, December 15-16. There is about a 50/50 chance that this storm delivers a little bit of snow versus a lot of snow. My fingers are crossed for the latter scenario.
Thanks for reading and please check back each morning for daily updates!
