Quiet start to the week, then snow Wednesday and Thursday

Summary

Monday and Tuesday will be warm with more sunshine, then the next storm will arrive on Wednesday.

Update

Sunday was mostly cloudy and mostly dry.

On Sunday night, the storm we have been watching sideswiped Colorado and we only managed to get 1 inch of new snow. The forecasts were uncertain heading into this storm with some showing nearly no snow and others showing 4+ inches, and we wound up on the low end with the storm track ending up just a bit farther away.

Looking ahead, the weather on Monday and Tuesday will be dry with low clouds lingering on Monday morning, then likely clearer skies later on Monday and throughout Tuesday. Temperatures will be comfortable with highs around 30 degrees.

The next storm will bring snow from Tuesday night through Thursday midday.

The first part of the storm from Tuesday night through Wednesday afternoon will bring an unfavorable wind direction from the southwest and this will likely result in just low accumulations. The second part of the storm from Wednesday afternoon through Thursday midday *might* bring a more favorable wind direction from the west and west-northwest, and we could see more snow during this time. While there could be some powder on Wednesday, I think that our best chance for powder will be on Thursday morning with storm total snowfall in the 3-8 inch range.

From Thursday afternoon through Saturday, December 31, we will be in between storms, though a continued flow of moisture and weak storm energy could keep snowflakes in the air.

Then we should see another storm around Sunday, January 1 to Monday, January 2, and again, the first part of this storm could bring an unfavorable wind direction with less snow and the second part of the storm could bring a more favorable wind direction with more snow.
