Update

Welcome back to the I-70 Daily Snow for the 2017-2018 season! October 1st marks the official start of the new water year and what a start it's going to be for northern Colorado.

It's already beginning to look like winter along the I-70 mountain corridor. Here's the scene on Sunday morning at Loveland Ski Area

Snowmaking is well underway at Loveland and Arapahoe Basin and if the current pattern keeps up, we should be looking at our first resort turns very, very soon...

Speaking of our current pattern, after a slight break through midday Sunday, our next round of snow will blast into northern Colorado and the I-70 mountain corridor on Sunday evening. Below is a look at the latest simulated radar at 11 pm on Sunday night.

This will be a very potent system by early fall standards thanks to a strong jet stream and accompanying cold front. Snow levels will quickly drop to below 9,000 feet by Sunday night and into early Monday.

Icy, slushy, and snow-packed road surfaces will be encountered from Sunday evening through Monday morning so accidents and road closures will be possible from Georgetown through Eagle-Vail.

CDOT Alerts  http://opsw.co/cdotalerts

Snow totals will range from 5-10 inches along the I-70 mountain corridor, with 12+ inches not out of the question for areas above treeline.

Snow showers will continue through Monday before slowly coming to an end on Monday night and into Tuesday morning. The road surfaces will improve during the daylight hours on Monday thanks to the higher October sun angle but icy surfaces could still be encountered through Tuesday morning along the mountain passes.

After the early week fun, drier weather will prevail through the end of the week.

There isn't much agreement looking further ahead but if the past few weeks are any indication, we could be in for cool and wet weather well into October.

Thanks for reading and stay tuned for updates as we ramp up the snow machine for the 2017-2018 season!
