Marvelous Ski Weekend

Summary

Expect terrific skiing on Saturday; considering the recent new snow and the forecasted overnight snowfall (2-5”). A cool low pressure will keep the snow level at only 1,500 ft, so groomers and off-pisters will be very good all weekend. With the chilly unstable air there will be a little new snow during the day (1-2”). The cold should keep the snow in good shape. There will be more abundant snowfall ( 3-10") in the central and especially southern Oregon Cascades. Hood will be silky. Bachelor will be epic. Ashland: mega powder. Hoodoo will be smokin’. Willamette Pass: some of the best skiing of the year. (see map below)

Short Term Forecast

By Sunday the upper level low will shift eastward, with high pressure nosing into the region. There may be some light snow, mainly Oregon Cascades. Otherwise expect partly sunny – with fantastic groomers. Temperatures will remain cool to keep the snow in good shape, but afternoon sun will soften the south facing slopes.

Extended Forecast

Monday and Tuesday, high pressure will nose in to a greater extent, but it’s a “dirty” high containing clouds and even a chance of some light snow. The high cleans up its act by later Wednesday and Thursday with more sunshine. Right now I don’t see any significant snowfall for the next 7 days, possibly beyond. So get out and enjoy this weekend, with the new snowfall.
