Steamboat Daily Snow

Heads up, there may be fresher snow! Read the latest Steamboat Daily Snow

Update

Snow started around midnight on Sunday night and the Monday 5 am snow report shows 2.5 inches at mid-mountain and 3 inches at the summit. This brings the storm total since Wednesday night to 9.5 inches.

During the day on Monday, we could see light snow from on-and-off snow showers, though I think any steadier snow should stay to the south.

A stronger and colder wave of energy should then hit Colorado on Monday night into Tuesday morning, but I am worried that the steadier snow will stay just south of Steamboat. Yes, it’s a game of a few miles one way or the other – that’s frustrating for you and for me as a forecaster, but that’s the game we have to play! If we can eek out an additional inch or two overnight, I would be happy!

During the day on Tuesday, expect colder temperatures (highs in the low 20s) and on-and-off snow showers. Any single snow shower could quickly drop an inch of snow in under an hour, and this could continue through Tuesday evening before the storm finally moves away by Wednesday morning.

Then the storm will move away on Tuesday night and we should see dry weather for the rest of the week.

Over the weekend and early the following week, it is possible that a storm could not follow the dominant storm track to our north and east and instead break off from the main flow and potentially bring snow to Colorado. The chances of this are about 30% or so, thus the odds are not in our favor, but the trend is slightly in our favor as each day this scenario continues to show up in a few more models. As usual, keep your expectations in check about a 7-10 day forecast, and just hope for the best.

Thanks for reading and stay tuned for an update each morning!
