Storm Brings Heavy Rain Then Snow
Summary
A wild westerly storm is bringing warm, wet nor’westers and heavy rain to the slopes Monday and Tuesday, soaking the early snow. Thankfully, colder air arrives late Tuesday, turning it to heavy snow and blizzards through Wednesday. By Thursday, 25–40 cm is expected across resorts, with 50+ cm in exposed spots and 15–25 cm for Mt Baw Baw. Mint weather returns Friday and into the weekend.
Short Term Forecast
Forecast for Monday 23rd to Wednesday 25th June
Showers arrive Monday morning and become more persistent through the day, turning to heavy rain overnight as strong nor’westers hammer exposed areas and threaten lift access.
Tuesday sees rain easing early, with snow taking over—first in Victoria during the afternoon, then NSW by evening. Winds stay wild, likely limiting operations.
Snow intensifies overnight into Wednesday before easing to scattered flurries during the day and clearing by evening. Cold air drops snow to low levels, but shifting gales may continue to impact lifts.
Extended Forecast
Thursday will stay mostly overcast, particularly at Mt Baw Baw, with a few lingering morning flurries. Cold southerlies will ease through the day.
From Friday into the weekend, conditions are set to be stellar—clear skies, calm winds, and a fresh snow base should make for some of the best early-season riding in years.
Looking ahead, current models suggest high pressure will hold strong into next week, keeping new weather at bay. Still, it’s worth checking updated forecasts before locking anything in.
Thanks for reading. The next forecast will be out early Wednesday.
