Big Wednesday

Update

At 8am Wednesday morning 6” of new snow has fallen overnight at the Challenger snow stake with moderate snow falling and a temperature of 7 degrees in the village. For today expect cold smoke powder with snow falling through the day (another 3-6”) and a high temperature of around 20 degrees at 8000’. Light to moderate SW winds will be in the range of 10-15mph with gusts to 20mph.

Upping things a bit, a Winter Storm Warning has been issued for Gallatin County (Big Sky included) starting 5pm tonight and lasting through Thursday for 12-32” of snow above 7000’. A strong NW flow aloft will transport copious amounts of moisture into SW Montana for what looks like the deepest storm of the season so far. Temperatures will slowly rise with the arrival of the brunt of the storm tonight with highs Thursday around 28 degrees with 27 on Friday (8000’). Overnight tonight, another 6-12” should fall on Lone and Andesite mountains. Expect a full on storm day Thursday with another 8-12” falling through the day. The snow keeps coming Thursday night with 5-10” more before the “river” of moisture moves into eastern Montana on Friday. Unsettled weather with measurable snow looks to stick around through the weekend with seasonal temperatures. It’s a good time to be in Big Sky…
