Chilly Saturday / Snow Returns Monday and Tuesday

Summary

A Wind Chill Advisory is still in effect today due to arctic air filtering into the region bringing dangerous wind chills. Saturday’s high at 9000’ 8 above zero. 3 inches fell yesterday, and flurries today could add another inch. Focus now turns to President’s Day Monday and Tuesday when a potent storm system moves in bringing chances of 6 to 12 inches along with moderating temperatures.

Update

Today:  

At 7:00AM it’s 8 below zero in the Village and 2 below zero at the 8800’ level of Andesite Mountain. 3” new snow fell in the last 24 hours at Headwaters and 2” at Andesite snow stake. Currently the skies are cloudy over Lone and Andesite mountains. At Andesite Mountain at 8800’ winds are currently blowing out of the East at 4 mph with a recent gust to 7 mph.

Today expect cloudy skies with off and on flurries with a skiff to an inch possible by last chair today. Very cold temperatures will be a concern again today with high temperatures this afternoon across mid to upper mountain locations (9000’) ranging from 4 to 8 above zero. Light West/SW winds will be blowing at 5-10 mph.

Extended Forecast:

Look for a mix of sun and clouds Sunday along with daytime high temps of 9 above. Presidents Birthday Monday brings clouds with snow starting around noon with 2 to 4 inches of snow along with welcomed high temps of near 14 above. Snow continues Monday night into Tuesday that could bring 4 to 8 inches to the mountain(s). Tuesday looks to be a nice, stormy pow day. Snow, albeit lighter amounts, stays in the forecast Wednesday through Friday as well.  Daytime temperatures revert back to seasonal norms with highs at 9000’ in the mid to upper teens Tuesday through Friday.
