Very Cold and Snowy Day

Summary

A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for Friday until 5pm for intermittent snow with up to 4 inches likely. Also, a Wind Chill Advisory is still in effect today due to arctic air filtering into the region bringing dangerous wind chills. Friday will be the coldest day of the snap with highs around 1 above. Next decent chance of a storm will be early next week.

Today:  

At 7:00AM it’s 15 below zero in the Village and 0 degrees at the 8800’ level of Andesite Mountain. 2” new snow fell in the last 24 hours at Headwaters and 1” at Andesite snow stake. Currently the skies are cloudy over Lone and Andesite mountains. At Andesite Mountain at 8800’ winds are currently blowing out of the SE at 3 mph with a recent gust to 6 mph.

Today expect cloudy skies with off and on bouts of snow showers along with frigid mountain temperatures. Look for another 1 to 2 inches on top of the 2 inches that has fallen this morning. High temperatures this afternoon across mid to upper mountain locations (9000’) will range from 1 above to 2 below zero. West winds will be blowing at 5-10 mph with gusts to 20 mph up on the ridgetops bringing dangerous will chills.

Extended Forecast:

On Saturday, expect clouds and flurries with a skiff to an inch with an upper-mountain high of around 2 above. Look for a mix of sun and clouds Sunday along with daytime high temps of 3 above. Presidents Birthday Monday brings a chance of 1 to 3 inches of snow along with welcomed high temps of near 14 above. Weather models are indicating a more organized storm for Tuesday that could drop several inches on the region. Snow stays in the forecast through Thursday as well.
