Warmer Temps and a Looming Storm for President’s Day
Summary
Sunday will be another cold day, but about 5 degrees warmer than Saturday with a high approaching 15 degrees above zero in the alpine zones at 9000’. President’s Day Monday and Tuesday a potent storm system looks to bring snow with storm totals of 8 to 12 inches likely into last chair Tuesday. This system will also bring temperatures back to seasonal averages.

Today:
At 7:00AM it’s 13 below zero in the Village and zero at the 8800’ level of Andesite Mountain. 1 inch of new snow fell in the last 24 hours. Currently the skies are partly cloudy over Lone Mountain. At Andesite Mountain at 8800’ winds are currently blowing lightly out of the North/NE at 3 mph with a recent gust to 6 mph.
Today expect partly cloudy skies with numerous sunny spells and cold mountain temperatures, but about 5 degrees warmer than Saturday. High temperatures this afternoon across mid to upper mountain locations (9000’) will range from 12 to 15 above zero. Light West winds will be blowing at 5-10 mph with an occasional ridgetop gust to 20mph.
Extended Forecast:
Very early Monday morning the first effects of the incoming storm system will bring light snow with perhaps 1 to 2 inches by first chair. President’s Day Monday will bring on and off periods of light snow through the day with another 2 to 4 inches falling through last chair at 4pm. Daytime temps at 9000’ will warm to 14 to 16 degrees above zero. Snow continues Monday night into Tuesday, heavy at times, bringing 3 to 5 inches overnight Monday. Tuesday looks to be a storm day and likely the best day for freshies, with another 3 to 5 inches through the day. Daily bouts of light snow along with moderating daytime temps will be the forecast scenario Wednesday through Friday. It’s looking to be a great upcoming week!
