President’s Day Storm is Rolling In
Summary
Winter Weather Advisories are currently out for the next 24 hours for steady snowfall in the region. President’s Day Monday and Tuesday a potent storm system looks to bring snow totals of 8 to 12 inches thru Tuesday evening. This system will also push the arctic air out and bring temperatures back to seasonal averages.
Update
Today:
At 7:00AM it’s 8 degrees (above zero) in the Village and 10 degrees (above zero) at the 8800’ level of Andesite Mountain. 3 inches of new snow fell in the last 24 hours, 2 inches overnight. Currently the skies are cloudy with snow flurries over Lone and Andesite mountains. At Andesite Mountain at 8800’ winds are currently blowing out of the South/SW at 5 mph with a recent gust to 13 mph.
Today expect snow flurries this morning becoming steady light snow around noon with periods of moderate to heavy snow by mid-afternoon. Snow accumulations of generally 2 to 4 inches are likely by last chair at 4pm. Mountain temperatures will be mild in comparison to the last 5 days with high temperatures across mid to upper mountain locations (9000’) from 16 to 18 degrees above zero. South/SW winds will be blowing at 5-10 mph with an occasional ridgetop gust to 25mph.
Extended Forecast:
Snow continues Monday night into Tuesday, heavy at times, bringing 3 to 6 inches overnight Monday. Tuesday looks to be another storm day and likely the best day for freshies this week, with another 3 to 6 inches through the day. Tuesday night, another 2 to 4 inches are likely. Snow continues into Wednesday morning with another few inches likely before the snow starts to taper off late Wednesday afternoon. A brief break for a sunny and dry Thursday before snow returns Friday. Unsettled weather with chances of snow daily look to be in store for next weekend. I think we can all bid the arctic air adios for a while.
