Powder Tuesday

Summary

Our current storm has dropped a total of 9 inches so far on both Lone and Andesite mountains in the last 48-hours. Overnight, 2 fresh inches fell, and it continues to come down Tuesday morning. Expect 3 to 6 more inches today, with another 3 to 6 tonight. Wait, there’s more… add another 2 to 4 inches Wednesday and 1 to 2 Wednesday night too. It’s a good time to be in Big Sky.

Today:  

At 7:00AM it’s 22 degrees in the Village and 15 degrees at the 8800’ level of Andesite Mountain. 6 inches of new snow fell in the last 24 hours, 2 inches overnight. Currently the skies are cloudy with light snow falling over Lone and Andesite mountains. At Andesite Mountain at 8800’ winds are currently blowing out of the West at 12 mph with a recent gust to 24 mph.

Today expect snow to fall through the day in varying intensities with moderate winds creating blowing and drifting snow in the alpine areas and ridge tops. Snow accumulations of 3 to 6 inches are likely by last chair at 4pm. Mountain temperatures will be mild with high temperatures across mid to upper mountain locations (9000’) from 18 to 20 degrees above zero. West winds will be blowing at 12-16 mph with an occasional ridgetop gust to 30mph.

Extended Forecast:

Tuesday night, another 3 to 6 inches are likely. Snow continues into Wednesday morning with another 2 to 4 inches likely by late Wednesday afternoon. Snow showers continue into Wednesday night with chances of an additional 1 to 2 inches. A brief break for a sunny and dry Thursday before snow returns Friday. Unsettled weather on an active NW flow with chances of snow daily look to be in store for next Saturday and Sunday.
