The Storm Moves Out / Snow Returns Friday

Summary

3 windblown inches overnight have added to the now 21 inch storm total since Monday. Thursday will see flurries eventually clearing out for a partly sunny day at Big Sky. West/SW winds will not be as gusty Thursday either. A westerly flow will bring in a series of shortwave systems that look to drop a few inches Thursday night and several inches Friday night into Saturday.

Today:  

At 7:00AM it’s 10 degrees in the Village and 2 degrees at the 8800’ level of Andesite Mountain. 4 inches of new snow fell in the last 24 hours, 3 inches overnight. Currently the skies are cloudy with flurries over Lone and Andesite mountains. At Andesite Mountain at 8800’ winds are currently blowing out of the West/SW at 3 mph with a recent gust to 10 mph.

Today expect clouds with occasional snow flurries during the morning hours then slowly clearing out by around noon for a partly sunny afternoon. Mountain temperatures will be chilly with high temperatures across mid to upper mountain locations (at 9000’) of around 17 degrees. West/SW winds will be blowing at 5-10 mph with an occasional ridgetop gust to 15 mph.

Extended Forecast:

A westerly flow aloft will conveyor in a few small storm systems over the next two days. Snow returns late Thursday night into Friday morning with around 1 to 2 inches likely by first chair Friday. The snow picks up again Friday night with chances of another 1 to 2 inches by Saturday morning. Another shortwave storm system moves through during the day Saturday adding an additional 2 to 4 inches to our growing snowpack. Things clear out for a dry and partly sunny Sunday. Temps Friday and through the weekend will be slightly above seasonal averages. Daily chances of snow continue Monday through Wednesday with seasonal temps expected.
