6 Fresh Inches for Powder Friday

Summary

A westerly flow will bring in a series of shortwave systems that started last night with the first wave of 6 fresh inches. That wave will continue through Friday morning with another 1 to 2 inches. A second wave rolls in tonight with another few inches and a third Saturday with 2 to 4 inches. It’s a good week to be riding Big Sky.

Today:  

At 7:00AM it’s 14 degrees in the Village and 10 degrees at the 8800’ level of Andesite Mountain. 6 inches of new snow fell in the last 24 hours, all of it since the lifts closed yesterday. Currently the skies are cloudy with light snow falling over Lone and Andesite mountains. At Andesite Mountain at 8800’ winds are currently blowing out of the North/NE at 3 mph with a recent gust to 9 mph.

Today expect clouds with occasional snow showers, mainly during the morning hours, with another 1 to 2 inches. Mountain high temperatures across mid to upper mountain locations (at 9000’) of around 19 degrees. West/SW winds will be blowing at 10-15 mph with an occasional ridgetop gust to 25 mph.

Extended Forecast:

The snow picks up again Friday night with chances of another 1 to 2 inches by Saturday morning. Another shortwave storm system moves through during the day Saturday into Saturday night adding an additional 2 to 4 inches to our growing snowpack. Things clear out for a dry and partly sunny Sunday. Temps Friday and through the weekend will be slightly above seasonal averages. Daily chances of snow continue Monday through Wednesday with seasonal temps expected.
