Warm and Windy Prelude

Summary

Pressure gradients are tightening over SW Montana resulting in strong surface winds. What all this means is gusty W/SW winds to 40 mph that could put upper mountain lifts on wind holds. Clouds and seasonally warm temps will also add to the stew. Better news, Monday night into Tuesday a strong cold front should bring in 4 to 8 Inches and bring temps back down to seasonal.

Update

Today:

At 7:00AM it’s 31 degrees in the Village and 23 degrees at the 8800’ level of Andesite Mountain. 1 inches of new snow fell in the last 24 hours. Currently the skies are cloudy over Lone and Andesite mountains. At Andesite Mountain at 8800’ winds are currently blowing out of the West/SW at 6 mph with a recent gust to 23 mph.

Today expect a cloudy day with strong West/SW Winds across the upper terrain blowing at 25 to 30 mph with gusts up to 40 mph. Mountain high temperatures across mid to upper mountain locations (at 9000’) will be around 32 degrees. Check for upper mountain lift status before heading out to Challenger, Shedhorn, or any upper mountain lifts. Just a suggestion…

Extended Forecast:

A cold front arrives Monday night triggering periods of snow with 3 to 5 inches likely by first chair Tuesday morning. Tuesday looks to bring off and on snow showers with another 1 to 3 inches through the day with daytime temps at 9000’ back into the middle teens. Winds will be strong on Tuesday as well but flipping to blowing from the west. A mix of some sun and clouds, colder daytime temps and even a few flurries will be the likely story for Wednesday and Thursday. A bigger wave of moisture rides through Thursday night into Friday that brings back measurable snow into the forecast.
