April 18th - Blue Skies to Gray Skies

Summary

Last day is here and the forecast is as fickle as the 20/21 season. First half sun, second half snow. After a sunny and warm morning, increasing clouds will bring chances of late afternoon thunder and graupel showers. Maybe a trace up high above 9000’ but the heaviest snow (2 to 4 inches) will fall Sunday night. This is my last daily post this season, but stay tuned for my season recap next week.

Update

Sunday:

At 7:00AM it’s 24 degrees in the Village and 27 degrees at the 8850’ level of Andesite Mountain. No new snow fell in the last 24-hours. Currently the skies are clear over Lone and Andesite mountains. Current winds at the top of Andesite (8850’) are out of the NW at 3 mph with a recent gust to 7 mph.

Last day will offer a bit of everything. Sunny and warm in the morning will quickly transition to cloudy skies midday with even some thunder possible by 3pm along with accompanying graupel showers. Slight chance of maybe a quick trace to an inch by last chair. High temperatures at 9000’ around 40 degrees dropping to around 32 by 4pm. West winds of 10 to 20 mph with ridgetop gusts to 25 mph.

Monday:

Sunday late afternoon and evening the cold front moves in bringing 2 to 4 inches by morning. Snow continues Monday morning with a few additional inches by noon. We need the snow as we’re 93% of average, and these spring storms are paramount to keeping the snowpack healthy. Thanks so much for reading this season!
