Heavy snow continues for the Interior
Summary
Big-time snow totals are being reported on Saturday morning across the Interior and eastern slopes of the Coast Range as the atmospheric river continues to unload on BC. High snow levels and rain have been an issue for southern and lower elevation areas such as Red and Fernie, but for farther north and higher elevation numbers, snowfall over the past 48 hours has been significant. While the snow might be on the denser side for many areas, Saturday conditions are deep for most areas! The highest snow totals over the past 24 hours (ending Saturday morning) include 50 cm (20”) apiece at Panorama, Sasquatch Mountain, and Manning Park, 38 cm (15”) at Kicking Horse, 35 cm (14”) at Revelstoke, and 30 cm (12”) at Whitewater. Heavy snow will continue through the day Saturday across the Interior, resulting in another 8-30 cm (3-12”), with snow gradually tapering off from northwest to southeast Saturday night. A secondary disturbance will bring respectable snow amounts (and thankfully lower snow levels) to the Kootenay and Lizard Ranges on Sunday and Monday, with lighter amounts elsewhere. Christmas Eve and Christmas Day are looking drier for most areas (except the North Coast Range), with another storm possible for the South Coast Range on Thursday, December 26th.
