Fresh Snow and Cold Temps

Summary

It’s a great weekend to ski or board across the Alberta Rockies with fresh snow and cold temperatures to keep it fresh. Saturday morning, all Alberta ski resorts reported some fresh snow overnight, but the highest amounts reported were at Lake Louise (18cm) and Sunshine (17cm). High-pressure builds in Sunday bringing dry weather and warming temps into the middle of next week.

Short Term Forecast

Saturday: Unsettled skies today with a mix of everything, clouds, sun, and occasional bouts of flurries, and we’ll even throw in chances of a few rumbles of thunder during the afternoon hours. Light accumulations, 1 to 3 cm Banff north and 3 to 5 cm south at Castle Mountain. Colder with highs at 2500m of -3C south to -9C north. Light NW winds.

Sunday: High-pressure starts to build in across the Rockies bringing a mix of sun and clouds with occasional flurries with trace amounts to 3 cm possible. Highs at 2500m -4C south to -10C north. Light west winds. Shout out goes to Castle Mountain as Sunday will be their last day of a really great season!

Monday and Tuesday: High-pressure builds in. Expect mostly sunny skies and a gradual warming trend. By Tuesday, daytime highs at 2500m will range from 0C south to -3C north.

Extended Forecast

Extended Forecast:

A trough of low pressure is progged to move into the region late Tuesday bringing back unsettled skies with daily chances of measurable snowfall into Thursday. After that, the weather models are not delivering consistent solutions. Stay tuned.

With the 20/21 season winding down, starting next week I will be posting one Alberta Daily Snow discussion on Friday mornings (best for those weekender ski and boarding outings). Thanks for reading and have fun ripping up that fresh snow out there!

NEW: Avalanche Forecasts

Many folks have requested this over the past year and we're excited to now show avalanche forecasts for regions across North America.

You can use our map view to see a quick overview of the avalanche forecast conditions and you can also go back in time for the last 7 days to see how the avalanche conditions have changed by using the slider at the bottom of the map.

Also, we integrated the avalanche forecast into each mountain location page under a new tab called "Avalanche Forecast".

The avalanche forecasts are freely available and are the foundation of any backcountry experience. Please check these forecasts each time you head out of controlled terrain!

You can view the avalanche forecasts right now on our website and they will be live on our iPhone and Android apps very soon.
