Update

Monday started with 3 inches of new snow that was fun on the groomers. Morning clouds wound up transitioning to mostly sunny skies during the afternoon. It was a wonderful way to start the week!

From later Monday night into now on Tuesday morning we saw more clouds cover the sky but we’ve stayed dry.

Coming up, we’ll see three storms during the next five days.

The first storm will be today, Tuesday. Expect snow showers from Tuesday morning through about Tuesday at midnight and accumulations will likely be a coating to a few inches. This is NOT a well-defined storm and instead, the snow will be generated by the combination of energy to our north and moisture creeping in from the south. The lack of a well-defined storm makes me want to forecast lower snow totals, but the high amount of moisture means that intense snow could fall if we get lucky and a few stronger bands linger over the mountain.  Maybe we’ll see some powder either late Tuesday afternoon or for Wednesday’s first chair.

The second storm on Wednesday through Thursday morning will be similar to the Tuesday storm in that it will NOT be a well-defined system but a lot of moisture could lead to an upside surprise. Let’s figure that a couple of inches are possible and if this happens, the best chance for any powder and deeper totals would be on Thursday morning.

The third storm will bring snow from Friday afternoon through Saturday morning and this WILL BE a well-defined storm. I’ll stick with my forecast range of 2-6 inches and the best chance to enjoy this new powder should be on Saturday morning.

To summarize the best chances to ski or ride a few inches of new snow, they will be Tuesday last chair or Wednesday first chair, Thursday first chair, and Saturday first chair.

Looking ahead about one week, we should see a brief period of dry weather on Saturday into Sunday. Then there will likely be a slow-moving and cold storm sometime next week. When I have a clue which day or days could offer powder, you’ll be the first to know. Until then, we’ll leave it at “sometime next week” and remain cautiously optimistic. Yes, this forecast for next week is the same as I talked about yesterday, and that’s because there is still essentially no consistency among the four major forecast models about the details of next week’s storm. We’ll figure it out eventually!

Thanks for reading and check back each morning for daily updates!
