Small Storm for the Pyrenees But Otherwise Dry Weather
Summary
A small storm is still on track to impact the Pyrenees from Wednesday to Thursday but for the most part, we will enter a period of dry and calm weather through the end of this weekend. Storms and an active pattern look to return around mid-month.
Short Term Forecast
There haven't been many changes since yesterday's post regarding the forecast for the next five days. We still have remnants of the long-duration storm set to bring a solid wave of accumulating snow to the Pyrenees from Wednesday to Thursday. In the eastern Pyrenees, between 12 - 25 cms are possible during this time, with lesser amounts farther west. Check out the latest snow forecast from the European model below.
This storm will bring some additional snow showers to the southern French/Italian Alps as well, but < 10 cms are expected.
Both the Alps and the Pyrenees will then get a break from the storms, and mostly sunny weather will prevail through most of the weekend. A strong ridge will build in off the Scandinavian coast and block any storms from heading south into central Europe. Below is the average upper-level pattern from Wednesday through Sunday.
The strong ridge will contribute to a strong trough developing downstream (east). Later in the weekend the ridge will retrograde and redevelop over Greenland, allowing the trough to drift west putting the Alps back in the storm track. Beyond mid-month, energy coming off the Atlantic will likely combine with this upper-level trough parked over northern Europe leading to further storms. It's a bit too early to get into specifics but the latest guidance suggests the first storm this weekend will not be major.

Track Hourly Snowfall From Nearby Weather Stations
Live Snow is our name for the latest hour-by-hour snowfall data that we pull from thousands of weather stations across the United States and Canada.
You can use this feature to see how much snow has fallen in near real-time rather than waiting for an "official" measurement from a resort or another data service which often only reports once per day.
- Go to any location screen.
- Tap the "Snow Report" tab.
- View data from the closest weather station or...
- Tap the "Weather Stations" tab to view all nearby data.
Please note that this is an experimental feature. Automated snowfall measurements from remote weather stations are sometimes difficult to interpret due to unreliable or "jumpy" data, and we do our best to programmatically remove inaccurate data.
