Small Storm, Showers, Big Storm

Summary

The early week storm is trending stronger and the pattern stays active through next week. Another round of showers is expected later in the week ahead of a much stronger storm for the weekend.

Short Term Forecast

The storm currently ongoing in the western Alps is trending a bit stronger, leading to greater snow totals in the French Alps especially. Below is the additional snow through Tuesday.

The French Alps near Chamonix, the Valle d'Aosta in Italy, and the central Swiss Alps are all in line to receive 15 - 30 cms.

Another brief round of showers is expected on Thursday ahead of a stronger storm arriving on Saturday. The latest guidance has pushed the onset of this storm back by about a day, but snow totals look about the same, in the 20 - 50 cm range through Monday.

Extended Forecast

I'm not expecting too much of a break early next week, with another storm possible as early as Tuesday morning. This storm looks moderate, with snow totals in the 10 - 20 cm range at this time.
