Thursday

Our midweek storm played out as expected with 2-8 inches for Thursday's reports and storm totals of 4-11 inches. The final forecast coming into the storm called for 4-8 inches with higher totals for the resorts further west and that's exactly what happened. Beaver Creek and Copper picked up 11 inches, along with 9 inches at Vail.

We'll now be waking up to single-digit temps on Thursday morning under partly clear skies. We should remain mostly dry through midday Thursday ahead of snow showering popping up on Thursday afternoon and into the evening hours. Snow totals will range from 1-3 inches through Thursday night.

Friday

We'll then receive another in-between day on Friday with mostly cloudy skies and temps in the teens ahead of a stronger wave that will arrive on Friday evening. This wave should pack a solid punch thanks to a good-looking cold front and storm energy.

In total, I'll be looking for another 3-6 inches in Saturday's reports, with a very fluffy snow quality thanks to the cold front and lighter winds out of the west-northwest. Keep an eye on first chair Saturday for very good turns.

Saturday - Sunday

We'll then see snow showers linger into midday Saturday with high temps only reaching into the single digits. Saturday afternoon through midday Sunday should remain dry under partly sunny skies but again, very cold for late March. There could be one more sneaky wave of snow that arrives on Sunday afternoon and lingers into Monday with 1-4 inches so so stay tuned for more details.

Travel Forecast

Icy and snow-packed road surfaces will remain in place through Thursday morning. Expect slower travel speeds, especially over the higher passes.

Wet and slushy road surfaces will then remain in place from Thursday afternoon through midday Friday. Travel should cruise along at normal travel speeds.

More icy and snow-packed road surfaces will form from Friday evening through Saturday morning and again from Sunday afternoon through Monday morning. Plan to give yourself extra travel time this weekend, especially on Friday evening as heavy snowfall rates could cause difficult travel conditions.

Dry road surfaces prevail from midday Monday through Wednesday, March 29 ahead of more wet, slick, and snow-packed road surfaces on Thursday, March 30 and into Friday, March 31.

We're entering that time of year when the higher sun angle really begins to be our friend in regards to clearing snowy road surfaces during the midday hours. Heavy snowfall rates can still overcome this higher sun angle so always remember to take it slow and give yourself extra travel time while driving during heavy snow.

Extended Forecast

Next Week

Not much new to discuss as we look ahead to the final week of March. We'll likely see snow showers linger into Monday, along with temps in the low teens, followed by dry weather and much warmer temps on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Looking further ahead, we'll be tracking our next round of snow that will make its way into Colorado around Thursday, March 30. This system could be a quick-hitter or it might linger and bring continued chances for snow through the weekend of April 1/2.
