Snow Continues into Thursday Night...

Summary

Snow continues to fall into Thursday night before ending by early Friday morning. Another storm moves in Saturday afternoon lasting into Monday morning before ending. Quieter weather is possible starting Tuesday, at least for a few days. The next storm is possible around the 9th-10th.

Update

Chain controls are in place Thursday morning from Baxter (exit 150) to Truckee (exit 184).

Thursday Storm:

The snow continues to fall Thursday into Thursday night. Gusty winds are causing low visibility. This storm will bring 1-2 feet of snow to the Sierra by the time it ends early Friday morning.

Be prepared for chain controls and slow driving through Thursday night lasting into Friday morning before conditions start to improve.

Friday:

Friday we should see clearing and the roads improving through the day, but likely starting the day with slow travel and chain controls until the roads start melting off.

Saturday - Monday Storm:

Saturday we could see snow from the next storm move in by afternoon and it may continue all the way into Monday night before clearing by Tuesday. Snow levels could start out back up between 5500-6500 ft. and falling slowly down to around 4500-5500 ft. by Sunday afternoon. Then below 4000 ft. Sunday night before the snow ends Monday morning.

Be prepared for another round of winter driving, slow travel, and chain controls if you plan to travel through the Sierra from Saturday through Monday morning. The roads should start to clear off through the day on Monday.

Long-Range:

We could see a break in the storms Tuesday through next Thursday the 8th. The next storm isn't forecast to move into CA until around the 9th, but that could change.
