Snow Showers Possible Sat Night - Monday...

Summary

Dry most of the day on Saturday. Scattered snow showers are possible from Saturday evening through Sunday. Light Snow Sunday night. Scattered snow showers Monday. Partly sunny with a few snow showers possible Tuesday. A Drier pattern starting Wednesday into next weekend. An unsettled pattern could return by mid-month.

Update

Saturday:

Mostly dry weather is expected through the day on Saturday. A few scattered snow showers could pop up later in the afternoon into the evening, but only wet roads are expected over Donner Pass while the sun is up.

Saturday Night - Monday Systems:

Saturday night through Monday as weak systems move through. We could see scattered snow showers Saturday night with snow levels dropping below 6000 ft. Watch for any heavier showers to possibly pop up and coat the road over Donner Pass, but overall only expecting a dusting to an inch of snow overnight.

Scattered snow showers on Sunday but with the daytime heating the roads will likely just be wet.

Sunday night into Monday we could see several inches of snowfall on the mountains and over Donner Pass. We should see chain controls set up over Donner Pass Sunday evening with snow levels dropping to 3000 ft. by early Monday morning. That could extend chain controls below Blue Canyon and through Truckee overnight.

Be prepared for snow, slower travel, and chain controls into Monday morning, and possibly later into the day. The snow is expected to become more showery but it will be cold with highs only in the 20s. So it could take longer for the snow to melt off the road over Donner Pass on Monday.

The snow showers are expected to diminish by Monday night but watch for slick spots.

Long-Range:

The latest model runs show another weak system for Tuesday with scattered snow showers. Not expected any daytime impacts. Watch for slick spots and possible chain controls over the pass on both Monday and Tuesday nights.

We are expecting a drier pattern starting Wednesday through Eastern weekend, and possibly through the 12th-13th of April.

The long-range models suggest that an unsettled pattern could return by mid-month. We'll keep an eye on that as we get closer.
