Here comes the snow! 10-20 inches expected Thursday!

Summary

The first wave of the big storm cycle hit Idaho overnight, bringing 6-10 inches of new snow. The main event will occur on (today) Thursday, with a maximum of 15-20 inches of new snow expected to fall on Northern Idaho ski resorts, and 10-16 inches expected at Southern Idaho, and then snowfall amounts will taper on Friday and Saturday. Temperatures are remaining below freezing at most resorts, and a cooling trend will occur during the storm cycle, bringing colder temperatures on Friday and through the weekend. This is a great dose of powder that inspired Brundage and Tamarack to open top-to-bottom daily operations on Friday, and will allow other resorts waiting for more snow to open before Christmas!

Short Term Forecast

Tamarack Resort got a big dose of snow overnight with 9 inches and counting at the snow stake. Bogus Basin and Brundage Mountain had 6 inches overnight and much more to come today.

Winter Storm Warnings are in effect across Idaho Thursday, with snow expected to fall throughout the day and overnight. Silver Mountain, Lookout Pass and Schweitzer are expected to get a maximum of 15-20 inches during the day and tonight.

In Southern Idaho, Brundage Mountain, Tamarack and Sun Valley are forecast to get 5-10 inches of new snow, and Bogus Basin three inches, depending on temperatures. Pomerelle is forecast to get hammered with 10-16 inches of new snow with high winds, and Pebble Creek could get 6-12 inches. Magic Mountain is forecast to get about 6 inches.

Kelly Canyon and Bald Mountain could get up to 10 inches.

The storm cycle is expected taper off on Friday, with less substantial accumulation by that time.

Extended Forecast

There's a 20-50 percent chance of snow through Sunday, and then skies are expected to clear off early next week for several days.
