Quick-hitting storm coming Sat PM/Sunday to deliver 4-6"

Summary

Sunny to increasing clouds for your ski day on Saturday. High temps in the 20s. A quick-moving storm with heavy snow will move through Idaho Saturday night/Sunday, bringing 4-6" statewide. Sunday morning should be a nice *pow* day, and the snow will keep coming in S. Idaho, hitting Magic and Pomerelle with 6-8" of new snow by Sunday night. Skies clear by Sunday afternoon/Monday.

Short Term Forecast

A skier in Sun Valley enjoys carving fresh corduroy on the way down Bald Mountain. Skies will be mostly sunny in Sun Valley this weekend, as the storm system is expected to mostly miss Sun Valley with only a 30 percent chance of snow Saturday night. Might get a dusting. A Low pressure trough located squarely over the top of Idaho by Saturday night/Sunday will usher in the next dose of snow for Idaho. Snow will begin falling after the ski day on Saturday and continue through Sunday morning, depending on location.

Schweitzer and Silver will get 2-4" on Saturday night, and Lookout 4-6". Breezy conditions will prevail with max gusts in the 20 mph range as the storm system passes through.

In Central Idaho, Brundage could get hit with 4-6" by Sunday. Forecasts are stingy for Tamarack and Bogus Basin, calling for less snow in the 1-3" range. Might fall somewhere in between depending on how things shake out.

The storm system is expected to hit Pomerelle and Magic with the most snow by the EOD Sunday, up to 4" expected each day. Pebble Creek is forecast to get about 2" out of the storm system.

Skies will clear off Monday in Central and Southern Idaho for several days of sunshine or partly cloudy skies. Daytime highs will be the 20s and lows in the teens.

In N. Idaho, mostly cloudy skies and a slight chance of snow is forecast every day through next week, with little accumulation expected.

Extended Forecast

Another storm system is forecast next Friday with small amounts of new snow forecast long-range. We'll keep an eye on that.

Enjoy the weekend *pow*!

Thanks for reading! My next forecast will be on Monday, Jan. 23.
