Trending Drier...

Summary

We stay dry through Saturday. Sunday into Monday we will see light snow from a weak system. The very cold air will boost snowfall, and keep things frigid through Tuesday. Another drier period is likely most of next week. There's a chance the pattern could get more active into the 2nd week of February but there's little confidence at the moment.

Short Term Forecast

Thursday - Saturday

The overall forecast has not changed much. Still expecting dry conditions through Saturday. Highs will be getting warmer through Friday with a cool down on Saturday. You can expect mid to upper 30's until Saturday when lower 30's return across the mtn.

Very sunny conditions will be present. Winds should gusty to about 30 - 35 MPH through Saturday out of the Northeast and then Northwest and finally West by Saturday. Saturday night the winds start to ramp up ahead of the next system.

Sunday - Monday System

If you read the title you'll know I don't have as many good things to say about the weak system that will come through. It's trended drier, so that means less snow for us. At this time it's looking like the WPC model only wants to put down at most about 0.25 inches of liquid on the mtn. Even with cold temps and high snow to water ratio's it will be a struggle to break above 4 inches at Main Lodge and 6 up top.

The winds will be strong on Sunday with gusts over 50 MPH on the summit out of the West Southwest. By Monday they should come down significantly out of the East Northeast and only be gusting up to 20 MPH.

The snow should fall throughout the day on Sunday into early Monday morning. My range for this storm is 2 - 5 inches at Main Lodge and 4 - 7 inches on Summit. I'd be leaning towards the lower end of the range at this time.

I will be cold both days with highs in the teens on Sunday and single digits to low teens on Monday. Bundle up.. it's going to be quite cold on Monday!

Extended Forecast

I don't have very high expectations for all of next week. The storm track is going to favor the Pacific Northwest. Whenever that happens it's always a toss up as to whether or not a storm will dig far enough South to bring us snow.

The good news is that temps will stay cool in the 30's throughout the week and with the lower angle sun of early February the melt should be minimal. There is a chance we could see more activity over the 1st weekend of February but right now I have no confidence in any individual storms.

I'll keep you posted on how this pattern will continue to develop.

Till the next one... Mike out.
