Will It Snow?

Summary

Friday and Saturday remain dry and milder. By Sunday colder air moves in and the chances for snow increase. Expecting a really light system to drop very cold snow between Sunday and Monday. Very cold temps dominate through Tuesday. Most of next week looks quite dry...

Short Term Forecast

Friday - Saturday

The forecast remains the same for Friday and Saturday with warmer temps on Friday in the mid to upper 30's across the mtn. Saturday we start to cool off into the low 30's and 20's and the winds start to increase by the afternoon out of the Southwest gusting up to 45 MPH over the summit. I'm expecting mostly sunny skies during this time period.

Sunday - Monday Snow...

The models continue to look unimpressive for the precip amounts, but quite impressive for the amount and severity of the cold air we're going to see. Temps on Sunday will struggle to get above the teens and then Monday will be the bitterly cold day with temps in the single digits all across the mtn. Combine that with some gusty Southwest winds on Sunday morning we'll see negative wind chills.

Winds should be in the 40 - 50 MPH range on Sunday and then decrease on Monday into the 20 - 30 MPH range out of the Northeast.

The precip range is anywhere from around 0.20 inches to around 0.40 inches. Using 0.25 inches as the average I'm going to lower the forecast even more today. 2 - 4 inches at Main Lodge and 3 - 6 inches on the summit. The best thing we have going for us is the bitterly cold air that will help fluff up those snow totals.

The snow showers should start during the day on Sunday and then clear out by mid-day Monday. I'll still be able to get in a final forecast tomorrow morning.

Extended Forecast

As I have mentioned the last couple days I don't have much confidence we'll see any significant snow all of next week. The models are all showing a pattern that isn't favorable for us to receive a moist storm. What's possible is that we could see another very weak system around the 3rd of February, which would be next Friday.

At this time it's looking like a dusting to an inch, but naturally that's 7 days away and could change. Going into next weekend I see a bit of a warmup occurring compared to the colder temps we'll see most of next week. The models are struggling with this pattern change but the last couple days have trended towards drier solutions fo our regions for all of next week.

I'll keep you updated.

Till the next one... Mike out.
