Snow Over the Weekend?

Summary

Sunny and milder weather for the rest of this week. A weak system that will moisture may impact the Friday evening through Sunday morning timeframe with a few inches of snow. Next week looks like more weak systems with limited moisture and plenty of cold air.

Short Term Forecast

Tuesday - Friday

Still expecting mostly sunny skies and warming temps throughout the middle of this week. Highs will be increasing from the mid 30's on Tuesday to the low 40's by Thursday before a quick dip down into the 30's on Friday.

Winds will generally be calm up until Friday. On Friday gusts up to 50 MPH out of the Southwest are expected over the summit as the next round of moisture moves in over the weekend.

Friday Night - Saturday Night

The models have been waffling a lot on whether or not we see much snow over the weekend. At this time there's still a chance we could get a few inches. And there's a chance we could get a little more as well if upslope flow out of the Northeast/East develops.

I'm just going to take the conservative scenario and say that between Friday night and Saturday Night we could see several inches. I think breaking 4 inches at Main Lodge is a stretch and maybe up to 6 inches on the summit.

I'll update the forecast daily to see if there's any significant changes to the weak system that could be pushing through.

Winds will be gusty on Friday night up to 60 MPH out of the South Southwest and once again on Saturday night out of the Northeast up to 50 MPH. That's the upslope winds I'm referring to that could bring us more moisture.

You can expect periods of stronger winds throughout the weekend with potential lift closures. There will likely be as they say 3 FT of wind and 3 inches of snow...

Extended Forecast

While the models had been showing next week to be more active over the last week there has been some significant back peddling on that over the last day or so.

While I still think there may be a few weak storms that come through, at this time it's nothing to write home about.

There's a good chance we could see another weak system come through Monday evening, February 13th through Tuesday the 14th. It will also get quite cold during this time period so at least melt will stay down at a minimum.

The models continue to tease with bigger storms or the chance for them going further into February, but it feels a little like they're kicking the can down the road every time we get close to it...

So we'll have to see how the middle of February plays out. Another moderate storm could be lurking around the corner or... we could just continue to see cold and weak systems.

Till the next one... Mike out.
