Warm with on an off rain this week

Summary

Warm temperatures and scattered rain will continue to affect parts of the Mid-Atlantic this week. Ski resorts in the higher terrain of New York still remain open and are expected to close by the end of this week.

Update

Another beautiful start is greeting the Mid-Atlantic Tuesday morning. Most areas are seeing sunny skies with a few areas in the central and northern Mid-Atlantic seeing clouds. Rain will hold off on Tuesday but return to parts of the region on Wednesday. This on and off rain and sun will continue for the remainder of this week. A few resorts still remain open in New York: Belleayre (closing Tuesday), Greek Peak, and Hunter Mountain. Let’s take a look at Hunter Mountain in the Catskills of New York with 24% of the terrain open.

The remainder of this week will continue to see warm spring temperatures with areas of scattered rain throughout the region. Let’s take a look at the GFS model’s depiction of precipitation type/intensity and mean sea-level pressure (MSLP) from 7 pm Tuesday, April 6th until 1 pm Saturday, April 10th.

Here is a look at the GFS model’s rainfall accumulations by 1 pm Saturday of this week.

Some areas will see less than a quarter of an inch of rain while others receive over an inch. The areas of rain will keep temperatures cool in the 40s and 50s, but areas that do not see rain will warm to the 60s and even 70s. I expect all resorts to wrap their seasons up this week, but if any resorts can make it past this week I will let you know.

I will keep providing forecast updates, with the next one on Thursday. I will also provide an end-of-year recap of our season on Saturday with total snow accumulations and how this season fared from the average. Talk to you Thursday!
