All eyes on late March

Summary

This week will start quiet ahead of more action for Taos on Wednesday, Thursday, and into Friday, along with Squaw Alpine on Wednesday. It gets a bit more interesting for Colorado and Utah on Thursday and into Friday. Stronger storms target the West during the final 7 days of March.

Short Term Forecast

Let's get started with the deepest reports from the Collective Resorts over the past 5 days.

Deepest 5-Day Totals

Alta: 27 inches

Snowbird: 25 inches

Taos: 22 inches

Aspen Highlands: 10 inches

Aspen Mountain: 10 inches

This Week

Before jumping into the forecast, I wanted to share two beautiful photos from my time visiting Aspen Highlands on Saturday, March 16th. Highlands, and specifically Highland Bowl, is one of my favorite places to ski with soft snow and bluebird skies.

The first photo is from the start of the hike up to the summit of the bowl, while the second photo comes from the summit looking south toward Pyramid Peak and the Maroon Bells.

I can't recommend skiing Highlands enough. Not only is the bowl a "bucket list" item for any skier but the groomers and other steeps are fantastic on any given day. And after receiving over 6 feet of snow in March, they just announced two bonus weekends to extend their season, April 19-21 & 26-28. Click HERE for more details.

Following a quiet weekend, Monday and Tuesday (3/18-19) will also remain quiet for all Mountain Collective locations. A southern storm track will then target Taos for the goods during the second half of the week. Keep an eye on Thursday and Friday for moderate to heavy snow and soft conditions.

Elsewhere, California will get back in on the action on Wednesday with light totals ahead of a stronger storm over the weekend. Target Squaw for soft turns on Wednesday and into Thursday and again on Saturday and into Sunday.

Further west, Colorado and Utah will be looking for a plume of moisture to bring chances for snow on Thursday and into Friday. Friday could be sneaky in both states so keep an eye on our Daily Snow Forecast for the latest updates.

Extended Forecast

Next Week

After a relatively quiet week, our full attention will be on the final 7 days of March as stronger storms move back into the West. It still looks like California, Utah, Colorado, and New Mexico will be the places. Keep an eye on next Sunday and into Monday (3/24-25) in Utah and Colorado and later in the week (3/27-29) for more of the goods.

As always, stay tuned to the 1-10 day forecasts for all of the Mountain Collective destinations and our team of local forecasters for the latest updates.

Thanks for reading and look for my next update on Monday, March 25th.
