Ramping Up

Summary

After a dry start to the season for most destinations, the second half of December looks very appetizing as all longer-range models provide the Western US with multiple storms through Christmas. Keep an eye on Wyoming, Utah, and Colorado for the deepest totals.

I finally have great news to share as nearly every Collective Pass destination will be "in the flow" for the second half of December. The storm door will open through the weekend of December 12th and 13th, followed by stronger storms as we get closer to the Christmas holiday.

The main weather pattern has focused on Western Canada but the high-pressure that has been blocking storms from diving into the Western US will finally break down.

Here's a look at the snow forecast through Friday, December 18th. Don't look at any one area specifically by just see the general trend of deep snow for much of the Western US.

For the upcoming weekend, keep an eye on Arapahoe Basin and Aspen Snowmass.

For the week of December 14th, Mammoth and Squaw Alpine will get back into the flow but I'm really excited about the destinations in Utah, Wyoming, and Colorado. Keep a close eye on Jackson Hole and Alta/Snowbird for the goods. This is the type of pattern that really delivers for the Rockies.

As always, stay up-to-date with our team of local forecasters. They will provide you with excellent local analysis and really help you dial in the details.

Looking further ahead, all signs are for storms to continue as we close out 2020 and start fresh in 2021. I really do think that a more typical La Niña pattern is setting up and this is great news for many destinations.

The one item that you'll really need to focus on this winter is planning in advance. Many destinations are fully reserved around the holidays and many weekends so plan for those sneaky mid-week powder days.

Thanks for reading! Next update on Wednesday, December 16th.
