Rocky Mountain Freshies

Summary

Most destinations across the Western US received a healthy refresh during the first half of March, with Aspen, A-Basin, Taos, and Squaw Alpine all being rewarded with deep turns. California will be in the catcher's mitt on Friday (3/19), followed by multiple storms for the Intermountain West during the week of March 21.

The monster storm that was all the talk of the weather world over the weekend of March 13/14 delivered for the central and southern Rockies destinations.

I enjoyed great turns at my local mountain Aspen Highlands (see below), while Taos Ski Valley picked up 2-day totals of 25 inches. Arapahoe Basin has also done very well over the past 5 days with 20 inches.

The focus will now shift back to the West Coast as a storm lines up for Mammoth and Squaw Alpine for Thursday, March 18, and into Friday, March 19. Look for upwards of 12-16 inches and great turns as we head into the upcoming weekend.

The storm track will then shift further east and after a very quiet past 10 days, Grand Targhee and Jackson Hole, along with Big Sky, will receive a much-needed refresh through Saturday, March 20.

As always, stay up-to-date with our team of local forecasters. They will provide you with excellent local analysis and really help you dial in the details with updates every morning.

Extended Forecast

Looking further ahead, following spring skiing conditions for destinations in the southern and central Rockies, the storm train will return with consistent snow through much of the week of March 21.

Alta/Snowbird, Aspen Snowmass, Arapahoe Basin, and Taos Ski Valley will all be in the crosshairs as below-average temps and 2-3 storms slide through the Intermountain West.

This is excellent news as continue to make up ground on the snowpack and refresh the slopes as we head into the final few weeks of the season. The next 10 days will be the time to get after it if you still have days available on your Mountain Collective pass.

Thanks for reading! Next update on Wednesday, March 24.
