Light Snow Today, Cold Sunday/Monday

Summary

A weak storm will swing through this afternoon and tonight, bringing some light accumulations to the region. Behind this storm, it will be unseasonably cold. No major storms coming down the pipeline for next week, with temperatures all over the place through the course of the week.

Details

Through this afternoon and evening, a weak storm will move through the region bringing some snow showers and perhaps a period of steady light snowfall with it. There won't be anything significant to speak of as far as accumulations with this one...generally a coating to a couple of inches is possible depending on exactly where any steadier snowfall sets up. Best chance of anything adding up is in the north, especially at elevation where temperatures will be cooler.

Behind the storm, we're looking at very cold temperatures for this time of year. Resorts in the north will struggle to get out of the teens on Sunday, with highs in the 20's elsewhere. Monday will be a little warmer with highs across the region in the 20's, but still quite cold for this time of year.

Long Range

Looking at next week, I don't see any major storms at this point. There is the potential for something during the second half of the week, but that's very uncertain at this point and it actually could be a warmer storm. Otherwise, it will be pretty quiet for the coming week, and temperatures will be all over the place. Don't expect anything crazy warm though, as the general pattern that we're in right now is remaining relatively cool. With that said, there will be a day or two next week that will likely push into the 40's and maybe even up to 50 degrees.

I don't often talk about the "longer" long range, but I do want to mention that a lot of signs are pointing to a continued cool pattern through the beginning of April. Of course, it's all relative in the sense that as we get into late March and early April, the average daytime high starts to continue to creep up. Typical highs for the end of March are well into the 40's, so even days where we only see temps in the 30's are relatively cool. My point is that it looks like our ski season isn't going to end anytime soon, at least for resorts that don't typically close around the end of March/beginning of April simply due to the lack of skier visits.
