It's Gonna be a Wet One

Summary

Conditions currently fair-good across the board. Mix of snow and rain this Friday will hurt conditions, followed by yet another mixed storm this Saturday. Details below on both the systems below.

Short Term Forecast

Good morning everyone, currently we’re experiencing some scattered snow showers across the northern section of the region. These showers will dissipate by the end of this morning, but in it’s wake a thin layer of powder for the slopes. I’ve heard that conditions in the Whites have been fair to good ever since that large snowstorm a week back; and similar conditions for VT and ME. Winds will be above average around the mountains today, and temperatures will dip below freezing. Spring skiing has officially hit the slopes, but you probably won’t be able to tell today! Here’s the current radar:

The next few days aren’t going to bring much in terms of snowfall, but temperatures will remain at or just above freezing for the mountains. If temperatures rise decently above freezing though, expect conditions to get icy real quick the following day.  Overnight temperatures are still dipping way below freezing, so all that melted snow will turn right into ice. That doesn’t look to be the case for today and tomorrow, but Friday is going to have some unfortunate precipitation for the region… Here are the temperatures for today and tomorrow:

Friday afternoon will bring a mix of rain and snow to the region. The storm will approach from the west, and have a rain/snow line move through the states. Right now expect NH and ME to receive a decent amount of snowfall for the slopes at first, but rain will eventually make it’s way to the resorts and eat up any new additions to the snowpack. Temperatures will also rise well above freezing as the storm makes its way through the region. Overall this is going to really hurt conditions across the entire region. Expect conditions to drop from what they are now, to poor-fair. The storm will dissipate by Saturday afternoon, but the rain isn’t letting up just yet. Details in the long term below. Here is the current track for the Friday storm:

Extended Forecast

Saturday afternoon will signal the end of precipitation for most of the region, a stray shower or two could still be floating around the region. Skiing conditions will be fair at best with icing conditions prevalent. Unfortunately another storm that will hit the region Sunday afternoon into Monday. This storm will be similar to the one this Friday, it will bring snow at first, but then flip over to rain and destroy any new accumulations. This is still a little far out, so the track could still change, but expect rain to be the theme for this weekend. Here is the current model run of the storm:

That’s all for this forecast. Spring is on it’s way everyone, go out there and enjoy it while you can!
