Northwest Daily Snow
By Larry Schick, Forecaster Posted 5 years ago October 7, 2018
Mainly dry pattern, but some respectable snowfall by later in October
Summary
The week ahead (Oct 7-14) will see minor snowfall in the high country, but expect mainly a dry pattern, as higher pressure noses into the region. Toward later in October ( 20th?) a decent shot of snow in the Cascades is possible.
Short Term Forecast
A few little storms will mean a small amount of snow on the upper slopes this week. Overall accumulations will be minor and higher pressure will mean a mainly dry weather.
Below is snowfall accumulation through midweek. Good for WY and Utah, not so great for the NW.
The reason for our dry weather is a ridge of high pressure blocking storms. This doesn't look like a persistent dry pattern with the high pressure breaking down in about 12 days, opening the gates for stronger storms. So far this is all a normal fall weather pattern, which typically doesn't get going until late in the month of October.
Extended Forecast
Below high pressure produces dry pattern into the weekend.
It is too early to put much confidence in the models, but they do show a breakdown of the high between October 19 and 21, producing a snowy pattern in the Northwest.
